My work has my social security number wrong and I have worked there for 3 years. This is the first year I have noticed it incorrect on my W-2. I have filed my taxes the last 2 tax seasons and I am not sure how to go about this. They told me they would contact the payroll company to fix the quartarly reports for this year and to wait 6 weeks to complete my taxes until the correct ss# is fixed.

But what do I do about the other 2 years prior and Who do I need to contact? DO I need to amend my taxes even though I filed them with the correct ss#? How do I fix the past years reporting to the unemployment office, medicare, social security and all that stuff?

Should my work be able to fill out a form to submit to the IRS to correct all of this?

Thank you,

Jules

If your SSN is wrong on W2, you may still do your tax return and may not even get any letter from IRS.

However, your income will not be credit to your SSN account with SS administration. So you have to worry more about Social Security Administration.
For 2008, ask your employer to issue amended W2.
