I found a car on craigslist.org and checked its carfax report.
The private seller clearly told me that he was the 1st owner and that he had the title showing he bought the car at the year when it was produced and brand new.

But here are some of the important CARFAX records showing some contradictory:

Owner One:
Purchased: 2003
Type: Personal
Where: Florida
Est. miles/year: ---
Est. length owned: 8/4/03 - 1/1/05
(1 yr. 4 mo.)

08/04/2003 Florida Registered as personal vehicle
Motor Vehicle Dept.
Gainesville, FL

08/22/2003 Florida
Motor Vehicle Dept. Title issued or updated
Gainesville, FL First owner reported
Title #0088652397 Loan or lien reported

01/01/2005 Honda Volkswagen of Panama City Vehicle sold
Panama City, FL
850-763-5495

Owner Two:
Purchased: 2007
Type: Personal
Where: Florida
Est. miles/year: ---
Est. length owned: 5/3/07 - present
(1 yr. 9 mo.)

05/03/2007 Florida Motor Vehicle Dept. Title issued or updated
Oklahoma City, OK New owner reported
Title #0088652397 Vehicle color noted as Blue

01/08/2008 Florida Motor Vehicle Dept. Registration issued or renewed
Oklahoma City, OK Registered as
Title #0088652397 personal vehicle
Vehicle color noted as Blue

01/07/2009 Florida Registration issued or renewed
Motor Vehicle Dept. Registered as
Gainesville, FL personal vehicle
Title #0088652397 Registration updated when owner
Moved
The vehicle to a new location
Vehicle color noted as Blue

I really do not know what is going on.
If the sellor is a liar and trying to sneak some money out of my pocket his imformation should be consistent with the CARFAX report unless he is dumb...

Could anybody tell me? Really appreciate that.

It seems that the only consistency is the car stayed blue. Yes, he is either dumb, doesn't know there is a constant record of change for motor vehicles, or he is trying to hoodwink you. Who knows. I suggest you not buy the car unless you really really like it and it is in good shape and running well and a fair price.

What made you look at the Carfax report ? Did you suspect something was fishy ?

So a used car seller is lying, anyone really surprised ?

If you like the car have a certified mechanic of your chioice go over it from top to bottom.
Do that on any car always before you buy.

Check under the floor mats and carpet. I would be willing to bet that it was a flood car and sent to OK to wash the title.

Thank you very very much!
Today I saw the car and I found it was in good shape and drove good. I will have it checked anyway before I paid the money. I will also have him come with me to the tag agency making sure the title is OK. I will let you know the following story...
Thanks again.
