Okay everyone, bear with me, I don't know a lot about camera's and I know
Even less about memory chips etc. I don't know the correct terms so I
Hope you all can help me.

I recently got a new camera, have taken tons of pictures and now I'd like to
Load them onto my computer, but it won't let me.

The camera came with a program but it doesn't work, the memory chip is a
Duracel 4GB chip.

Does anyone know of a program that will read the chip and let me put the
Pics on my puter?

Sorry for the illiterate computer speak, I need a "downloading pics for Dummies" book.

Anyone? Someone? I need help!

First off, do you have a card reader on your computer that will accept the card you have for your camera? If you do, then usually the cards act as "hard drives" that'll show up under "My Computer". If you don't have a card reader slot, then what possibly might be happening is that usually digital cameras have two settings for USB. One is usually camera mode, and the other is disk drive. Sometimes when cameras have their USB set to camera, you need special software to get the pics off (this depends on the camera though). When it is set to disk drive, then once you plug your camera into the USB on your computer, again you'll see another "drive" located in "My Computer". To change this setting will depend on the camera brand etc. Am I making sense?

The problem is the chip. I suspect its an SDHC card which requires a read that support that type of card. If you have a computer that's a couple of years old, it probably doesn't support it.

So you have two choices, either buy a reader that supports the SDHC format or use a cable to connect the camera to a USB port on your PC. Most likely the camera came with such a cable.

Have the cable, tried it, it didn't work. Also have the card reader slot thingamajig, but nothing shows up anywhere when I put it in.

My old camera, as soon I inserted the chip the pictures downloaded, this one, no go.

Darn, the puter's not that old, only a couple years, it's a Dell.

Thanks for trying guys, I appreciate it. Guess I'll have to get a camera with film. Yuck. :(

Did you try to change the USB to drive setting? If you can try that, your camera might show up as a drive. The pictures won't automatically download for you, but at least you can copy and paste.

Um, how do I do that? :o

Sorry, really not computer savy, I'm still amazed that I actually got on to this site. ;)

Well, I have an HP camera, and if I go to menu, and then scroll over to setup menu, and then scroll down, I have a setting called USB and beside it is a changeable option between camera and drive. What kind of camera do you have? Make and model?

Connect the cable from the camera to the computer, then turn on the camera (sometimes you have to make sure the camera is in picture display mode versus picture taking mode), Windows should detect it with little pop-up balloon in the notification area (bottom right of the desktop). That's the first step. If you don't see those pop-ups give ot a second and open Windows Explorer and see if a new drive letter is there.

You never answered whether it was an SDHC card. That's probably why the slots don't work. You might want to consider getting a SDHC reader.
