I am going to get 2mb internet installed as my satellite internet from hughesnet has become unbearable. :mad:
The phone company says I need to purchase an adsl modem.
Looking around I see adsl and adsl2 modems.
Are they the same? :confused:
Which should I buy and any recommendations of what brand.

p.s. The phone company wants to sell me a zoom modem for $125. Which I think is crazy.

ADSL1 = up to 8Mbps
ADSL2 = up to 12Mbps
ADSL2+ = up to 24Mbps

No, these higher speeds are only achievable when very close to the exchange

And that is providing the provider you are using provides that speed, the best modem will always be limited by the bandwidth that your ISP can provide or you pay for.

here is one for $52
ADSL2/2 USB Ethernet Modem
Amazon.com: ADSL2/2 USB Ethernet Modem: Electronics (http://www.amazon.com/ADSL2-2-USB-Ethernet-Modem/dp/B000N4WRGI)

check stores in your area and get what will work for you
