My son is 17, his girlfriend is 16. I just found out she is pregnant. Neither my son, nor the girl want to have this baby. She wants an abortion ASAP, she is about 11 weeks now. Her parents found out and have basically locked her in the house, she is not allowed contact with my son and is being forced to keep this baby and raise it! I offered to pay for the abortion, and it is out of the question as far as her parents are concerned. They will not talk to me again. They have threatened legal action against me and my son if we attempt to help the girl have an abortion.

Since she is being forced to carry this baby , can she give it up for adoption once its born? Or does she need her parents consent? They have already said that if she does that, they will throw her out in the streets. ( No one in her family will go against her fathers demands, so this girl is alone now)
PLease help with any info on the adoption issue. My son is freaking out and so is this poor girl.. she will still be 16 when the baby is due ( Late August 2009)

She does not need her parents consent to give the child up for adoption. If her parents throw her out on the street they could possibly be held liable for abandonment, depending on the local laws.

Bottom line: she needs to do what is best for her and her baby. If her father has locked her in the house, call the police. She DOES have rights, even though she is a minor, and her father interfering with those rights is a crime.

Edited to add: exactly what 'legal action' do they intend on pursuing? Taking the mother of your grandchild to a doctor? Pretty sure that isn't a crime.
