It took me over three years.

Relax and enjoy your freedom while you have it.

A baby can be the best thing for some people, but not for others.

How old are the two of you?

Once you have a baby, the woman's interest leaves the guy and is centered on the baby. Invariably, the guy feels left out. The baby makes it difficult or even impossible to have quiet evenings together, to have uninterrupted sex, to have an entire meal alone or without interruption. Babies are messy, spit up, poop and pee a lot, seem to always be hungry, are expensive, and have to be cared for 24/7. You can't set them on a shelf and walk away. That baby is yours forever, no matter what. And if the baby is born disabled in some way, the problems multiply endlessly.

Women think of soft, fat cuddly little masses of cutsie-pie sweetness when they think of babies. That's not what they are most of the time. Do I love my kids? Yes. Would I do it over again, knowing what I know now? No, at least not as young as I was, definitely. I had to grow up too fast and missed out on a lot of traveling and fun because I decided to have kids. And I had just turned 25 when I had the first one.

Well how old are you? Do you have the means to take care of a child?

Crystal... if your boyfriend is not ready, it would be best to hold off for awhile. I know it can be hard when you are wanting it so much, but the odds greatly increase that your relationship will not last if you go into a pregnancy knowing full well that he was against it.

Give it some more time. Focus on getting to a point where you could take care of yourself and a baby on your own if you had to. Hopefully that wouldn't be the case, but unfortunately it is for many women and of course they don't expect it to be that way. Finish your training... will be much easier to get it done when you don't have a new baby to take care of. Pregnancy could go very smoothly for you, or it could be a very difficult time, sometimes requiring a hospital stay, quitting work and school, being on bedrest.

Female go through these periods of "nesting." They see cutsie-pie babies at the mall and at people's homes and don't realize what goes on behind the scenes during the rest of the 24 hours that day.

Like someone had said in a similar thread, express your material feelings by adopting/rescuing a dog from a shelter. If you can manage that, with all the medical attention it will need over its lifetime, the expense of food and toys and supplies, the aggravation of potty problems and walking the dog in all kinds of weather, training the dog so it is well behaved and you are alpha, not losing your temper and taking it out on the dog, not giving up the dog just because you're tired of it, and a million other things because you are responsible for another life, then you are probably almost ready to be a parent.

Check into how much it costs for the basics of having and raising a child -- medical costs, formula and baby food costs, clothing costs, baby furniture costs, while working at a low-paying child care job... can you afford a baby?

Want to know how to get over wanting a baby?

Spend 8 hours in places that parents take their kids and where those kids run amok. Eat your lunch in a McDonald's play area. Try to read a book at a park, in the middle of the playground. Try to pay your bills in the play area at a mall. Do your grocery shopping on Saturdays, when mothers bring their kids to the store. Go to a toy store at a major mall for an hour. Spend an entire day where children are overstimulated, tired, cranky, and want something.

Bet you get over wanting a kid so badly in the first 4 hours, and a screaming headache the last 4 hours.

Got to spread the love -- fantastic idea, Syn! Beats getting a dog!

Be young when your young. You have the rest of your life to have babies. Give it time.
