Hello,
I have been out of the country for many years and I don't remember if I am single and living alone whether I am considered single on the 1040 tax form or head of household.
Please respond.

I am filing my North Carolina taxes and I am not sure if I owe a interest on my unpaid $252 dollars that I owe. Or is that only due after April 15?

If you are single and living alone you are not considered a head of household. You must have a dependent living with you. That dependent could be your son, daughter, or other blood relative that meets the proper dependent criteria.

On the North Carolina return, any amount owed under $500 (that is the generally accepted limit for state tax returns) can be paid by 15 April 2009 without penalty or interest.
