My fiancee's mother has dementia and lives on her own we are in the process of moving her into a long-term care facility, but it takes time. Her condition affects her reasoning skills and she has a tendency to have random strangers stay with her. The problem right now is a gentleman is refusing to leave her apartment which she does own. No lease or agreement was made to allow him to stay. It seems our hands are tied on the issue as the police seem unwilling to get involved unless he is causing harm to my future mother in-law. We have asked on more then one occasion for him to leave and have set dates giving him ample time to find another place of residence. It seems my only other option is either changing the locks which costs money or me physically removing him from the property which I'm not comfortable doing as he may attack me. Any suggestions?

Does your fiancée have a power of attorney to act for your mother? If not, get one then give the man written notice to leave the apartment.

Once he fails to leave you can get an order of eviction from the magistrate and have the deputy remove him.
