It's difficult to know for sure what's wrong. I would replace basic, fundamental maintenance items first; e.g. spark plugs (only use the NGK plugs that came in your car), fuel filter, rotor, igniter, coil, distributor cap, and spark plug wires. Later, I would replace the main relay. After you know that everything is new, I would warm up your car and set your idle rpm, using a tachometer. Finally, I would check the car's timing.

If your car is automatic, have your mass airflow sensor cleaned as well as your IACV (servo). Replace your air filter element if excessively dirty

My 1997 mazda 626 had the same problem as with your car. Try what I did. Have your mass airflow sensor & IACV (servo) cleaned if your car is anutomatic. Replace your air filter element if excessively dirty. My car came back to its normal condition
