OK I'm trying to get into the service and I know I have a felony on my record. But it was youthful offender and has been sealed. I know if I tell the service about it I will be dq. But when I did this I was 16 so about 15 years ago and my lawyer promised me that it would not hurt my chances in getting into the military. (so he lied to me and stole my money) I was reading that the fbi will destroy my fingerprint card so when I go and do my fbi background check will it still show up. And if it does why? Its not a conviction but just something stupid that I did when I was young

So why would the FBI be involved in your felony? What was the felony. I hardly think the FBI would be involved in something minor. Our RCMP in Canada don't bother unless it is fraud, murder, international crime. What did you read that said the FBI would destroy your fingerprint card ?

Sorry, have a lot of questions, Jeff. If it isn't a conviction, what is the problem?

I would say, just go for it, apply and take your chances. What else can you do?

No the FBI never destroys your fingerprint card.

A fingerprint card does not list any crime or any conviction what so ever, it only does one thing it says that a person with these fingerprints were identified as this person. So if you give a fake name it will cross reference,
In fact your card most likely has been coded and is now in electronic foremat that is now with the Department of Homeland security.

What you do have is a criminal history file normally referred to as a NCIC report. This will never been deleted, even if explunged, the report that the government can see will show the conviction and state explunged, since for national security all itmes, even explunged will show up.

So to the miliatry there is nothing you can do if it is showing up.

If done as a miinor and held in Juv court, that should not show up at all
