My current husband and I got married in the summer of 2004. I was married before thisbut it was only for a few months. He was cheating on me the entire marriage and left me and our son shortly after he was born. After dating my current husband for 3 years, I paid a paralegal to handle the divorce. He said all I needed to do is pay him 500 dollars and he would handle everything and I will be divorced in 6 months. On the 6th month, my husband and I got married assuming the divorce was finalized. A few years later, I come to find out that the paralegal I hired was no longer in business and is nowhere to be found. Basically he took my money and ran and I later found out that there were many others who he conned and believed they were divorced but never were. So I hired another paralegal and the divorced is now finalized but I am wondering if the marriage I am in now is even legal? What do we need to do to fix this? Do we need to get married again? If so, we would like to get married in Hawaii, the same day and state we originally got married since we were planning out renewing our vows on our anniversary. What should we tell them when trying to obtain another marriage license and providing them my final divorce papers when we should already be married. Another concern we have is my current husband would like to adopt my son. What do we need to do to get this done and are we even able to do this, based on our situation? Please help! -Jane

Welcome to AMHD. Just curious: was your divorce filed? Have you visited the courthouse and researched this? Why hire paralegals? Do you have your decree of divorce in hand? What does it say about child custody and support? Is the father supporting your son?
