Resently I can't return to work. I'm not able to look for work due to my health condition. To me Menager didn't prepare me to handle that bad news. It was brutal way to lay off employee after 9 years of employment. Ps. I'm 57 years old and single father of 15 yers old son and I know that will be hard to find job. Jurando

Hello Jurando:
If you don't belong to a union or you don't have an employment contract, you boss can fire you for any reason at all.
Yes, it WAS brutal - but it looks like it was legal.

Hi Excon Thanks for Your answer .But must be some legal procedure how to handle lay off to employee? You don't give lay off papers to The Cran Operator when he is on The Cran? I think it was iligal to lay me off that way J.

Hello again, J:
Noooo, there really isn't a procedure how to lay off employees...
But, I get what you're driving at.. Although they're allowed to fire you, they aren't allowed to "inflict emotional distress" upon you in the process. I see that you didn't react well to the news. Who would?
If you can relate your stairway accident to the news and HOW they gave it to you, then you might have a case against them. But, it's a stretch.
You can run it by an attorney. They won't charge you for a consultation, and if you have a case, they should take it on consignment. That means you won't pay legal fees unless you win.
I hope you kick their butts. Nobody should be laid off after that many years...
