Carburetion and Exhaust is sometimes first and easiest, High compression pistons and cams would be involved and Money.
Sometimes you can get a Performance Chip.
When going for more Horsepower or Speed, Attention needs to be given to Tires and Brakes as well.

One of my cars is a Honda CRX and your pursuit of more power is going to be directly influenced by your wallet. Most Honda folks looking for more bang for their buck go with an engine swap. You can get more out of any engine but performance parts for Honda's are a bit on the pricey side.
Your most quick route to more power is open up your exhaust a little and throw a turbo on it.
After that you can start swapping in different intakes, cams, throttle bodys, trick heads as long as your bank account allows.
Just remember one thing. At the end of the day it is still only a "Civic".

Start with a cold air intake and exhaust. You can get these products at a real good price from stores like pep boys or the internet, you can also try a programmer or a chip for starts and just take your time until you get the horsepower you want. Search for good prices and do like what your doing now ask questions to people who already did it and also become a member of a forum that deals with your car in performance.
