Hi there.

I have a Kelvinator fridge (model N369B) which has a separate freezer at the bottom. The freezer works fines but the fridge forms ice in the inside at the back of the fridge near the cold metal plate (condensor plate). Would you show me how to repair the ice forming?

On many models this is normal. If your unit is a self defrost the ice will leave and then build back up. If it is a off cycle defrost then whenever the thermostat is not calling for cooling the ice will melt off.

Thanks HVAC 1000. But my fridge keeps on building up ice so after 3 months I have a big huge ice that I have to manually turn off the fridge to get rid of it. Is there a way to stop this ice building up?

Usually there is a drain in those units. It is a good possibility that the drain is plugged up causing the problem. Your model number is not listed in my books so it is probably a very old unit and I cannot see a picture of what you have. If you can post a picture of the area I might be able to tell more.

Thanks again for the prompt reply. We're trying to unblock the drain but it seems to be so blocked up with all the rubbish and ice that it's difficult/impossible to push a wire down. Have you got tricks up your sleeve for this? Thanks. Adam

You can try to place some hot water in the area to help with the ice. I use compressed air to blow drains but I have also used a turkey baster filled with hot water to flush the drain. You must get the drain thawed out first for the turkey baster to work.

Have put hot water and the drain is unblocked. Thanks very much for your valuable advise HVAC1000. Finger cross for no more ice in the fridge. Adam

Glad you got it fixed. The old ones do that kind of stuff once in a while.
