What do you think of Pelosi's idea of "stimulus" as told to George Stephanopoulos over the weekend?
STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?
PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?
PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.
Hundreds of millions of dollars in the Dems' "economic stimulus" plan for abortion, contraception... funds that will surely go largely to Planned Parenthood to shore up their sagging bank accounts so they'll be strong enough to campaign for Democrats. I haven't figured out how people that are so concerned about "children's health" can believe so steadfastly in abortion, now I have to buy into condoms to "stimulate" the economy? Is Obama planning on creating more jobs in the prostitution industry?

None of which will do any of us any good. If they really a stimulus plan they would halt all federal income taxes for a year.
This is payback for them not being in power for the past few years. And now that she is wielding all that power it is only the start of the end.

She apparently hasn't considered that most abortions will be of Democrat's children, thus potentially reducing the number of Democrat voters in the future and certainly reducing the number of potential TAXPAYERS.
Maybe that's not quite right though. Maybe it will reduce the number of potential WELFARITES. Maybe that's what she meant about saving money?

She came into leadership saying everything she was doing was for the children. Back then ,in her words, the three most important congressional issues of the day are “our children, our children, our children: their health, their education, their economic security, their families, the environment in which they live, and safe neighborhoods.” ....... “Everything we do is about you (kids),” Pelosi told Scholastic News. “That's what we're here for, because the future belongs to you. It's yours and we have to be responsible about how we turn it over to you.”

Now children are the burden of the state. How times have changed.

What a terrible thought. Teaching kids about contraception. Lock them up I say!!
From what I understand planned parenthood is a lot more than just an abortion clinic.

I have to agree with you Skell, it sure is... and because of them I had my first son. Without them, I would not have known about my choices. ALL of them, including keeping my baby. When I went in there at 19, they talked with me, gave me a free test, and offered help, with whatever choice I made. They gave me info on all the help I was eligible for to help keep me and the baby safe and healthy. I do not remember ever being pushed into anything. Although I am a pro-life lady, I would still want to make sure that all kids, and young women get the help and support they need no matter what choice they are making.

The merits of it are pretty much irrelevant . It should not be added into an economic stimulus package .Debate it on it's own merits in a separate legislation.
It's all b.s .politics anyway . The Dems added that pork into the bill knowing the Republicans would balk . Then President Obama signaled that he wanted it removed from the bill appearing bi-partisan while the Republicans look obstructionist.

Skell, this isn't about the merits of PP, and I've posted my personal beef several times so I won't go there. It's about the politics of this ridiculous "stimulus" plan and as tom pointed out, reconciling how it can be "about the children" if they're such a burden on society.

Back then it was the Dems who were obstructionists (note how many of his appointments in such critical areas like national security were delayed by Dems for months at the beginning of his Presidency ) . President Bush on the other hand went out of his way to support legislation that had fat Teddy's signature on it.. (NCLB ,Medicare Part B Drugs ,Immigration reform).. in an effort for bi-partisanship.
Take a realistic look at the stimulus package .
All the $$$ is going to projects like the Mob Museum .
The 'mob museum' kerfuffle | The Movable Buffet | Los Angeles Times (http://vegasblog.latimes.com/vegas/2009/01/the-mob-museum.html)
Or $20 billion to expand OHare Airport

(more room for the newly renovated Air Force One fleet to land)
There are proposals for a Miami water park. The United States Conference of Mayors released a 300-plus-page list of some $150 billion in "ready-to-go" projects. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials submitted its list of 5,000 projects totaling $64 billion. There's proposals for nurse training, Medicare, Head Start, boatyard support, home weatherization... the list goes on and on.
All they did was hold on to 2 years worth of pork that they knew they could not get passed with President Bush wielding (finally ) a veto pen. So they put all their proposals into a "bucket list" even as they campaigned as the real fiscally responsible party .
Then when the time is right ,they bundled them together under the guise of "stimulus" .
Rhambo Emanuel did say it was a terrible thing to waste the opportunity of a crisis. Now you know what he meant.

I think Pelosi is clinically insane.
I would think the money that Pelosi wants to spend on contraception should be spent on deporting the illegal aliens. That would be expensive, yes, but a cost reducer in the end eliminating free anchor babies, free schooling, free healthcare, etc. Why do you think California is broke? Illegal aliens draining the state's resources.

Obama lifts restrictions on abortion funding - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090123/pl_nm/us_obama_abortion)
The United States spends more than $400 million on overseas family planning assistance each year.
400 million OVERSEAS - taxpayors this is your money - how does money going abroad "stimulate" the economy here?
The politicians are bleating once again that something, has to be done by the government, for the recession----
And they are resorting to fear tactics in order to get more money to spend and expand the size and power of government in your lives.
What happened to the TARP money? What has it done for you?

Understood, I wanted to make the point that they aren't awful people. I do not agree with the so called stimulus. I think we need to really spend that money here in a big way. Our ladies and girls need it badly.
