Hey,
I seem to be having a bit of a problem getting my older poodle/cocker spaniel(male; 11years old) to like my new yorkie puppy(female;5 months old). The yorkie is very playful but my p/c doesn't seem to like playing with her at all. Even when she just comes around to sit or lay, he growls and walks away. I don't know how to get him to like her. Any ideas?

Think of it this way, If you were 75 years old and someone dumped a toddler off to live with you what would you do?

The problem is that you picked the wrong energy for your p/c. Many people make this mistake when choosing and introducing a companion pet. The pet that you choose should either match or be lower than energy of your other dog. But it's too late now, you've gotten the new puppy. It's like 450Donn said, an older dog that is set in his ways is not going to want a bratty little kid around. I'm sure she's a great puppy, but that's the deal. How long have you had the puppy? Maybe given time, the older dog will learn to adapt to the younger, and learn to put up with her a little more.

The only other thing I can think of that you can do, is to drain as much of the puppies energy as you can, by taking her on fast paced walks/runs, and lots of playtime with you. She will be tired, and won't be such a bug to your older dog.
