I do not have a flea problem to date. Four month old pup. Using Advantix now. Concerned about chemical harm to pup. Is there anything that is safe and that works? Are dog collars better than the liquid applications--safety wise? I live at the 5600 foot elevation... do fleas even live at this elevation? Cold in winter mid 80s in summer.
Thanks!

In my personal experience flea collars never work well, and even the best of flea drops have trouble holding up to a full scale infestation. I've had better luck with Advantix then Frontline in the quality department, both both are exceptionally better then walmart brands. They should both be fairly safe to use though, as long as used as directed for the age and size of the dog. Be careful not to overdose the puppy.

I'm a cat person who has read that flea collars are not good because the animal breathes in a constant dose of chemicals (from the collar that's just under his nose). I've had good experience with Frontline, although my cats freaked out during the first two hours and hid under the bed.

I use Frontline, but not the full dose. I usually split it between two similar weight dogs. I live in Sacramento area and have had no problems with fleas. I am actually starting to lower the dose to every other month.
