You don't have to take birth control to try to have a baby.

When you are on birth control you are not getting a real period. The egg is not being released... therefore its not a rea period. If your period is not regular without the pill you need to go to your gynocologist. He/she could check your hormone levels and/or diet and stress levels.

This is rather inaccurate advice. You still release an egg, it's just that the pill tells you when to do it rather than releasing the egg naturally. Why do you think women get pregnant on the pill? I did twice. ;)

Being on the pill in order to regulate periods for conception varies from woman to woman. This is something you need to discuss with your doctor as he/she knows your medical history.

Dear Carol119 and Health Expert/AMHD SuperModerator,
I apologize for not mentioning that in some pills you don't release the egg (this was what my dr told me). I know there are other pills that you do release the egg, but not getting pregnant has to do with the lining in the uterus. For my inaccurateness I apologize.
My point was: I believe the WHOLE person needs to be looked at to determine what is affecting the cycle, than you may start adding things hormones/chemicals to your body. Individualized care (I guess SuperModerator was getting at?) I actually am in healthcare (but obviously not ob/gyn as the moderator may be) but in my field we look at the whole person... If it were me, I'd look at that first because that has been my experience and other people I know. I was on the pill for years to get myself regular and when I came off I became regular again after just some life changes. The time I was irregular was when I was under a lot of stress and didn't eat enough because of it... also ended up not producing enough progesterone (which also made me overally depressed and moody/PMS right before my period). Carol, I really wish you the best of luck and I really didn't mean to lead you astray. I'm just emphasizing looking at everything first (including checking hormone levels), but maybe you have already.

Did you discuss this with a doctor?
Generally, it takes 2-3 months for your period to be regulated. There are natural ways to assist you with uterine health also.

Also, if you are under stress, this can have severe effects on your period. Stress can be directly related to loss of sleep, eating habits, and depression... take care of yourself girl...
