My new puppy (patterdoodle) x breed (patterdale terrier and a poodle) has been home now for 6 days and he is 11 weeks old tomorrow. He has been on a diet of dried food - and only ate one bowl of it since coming home, he prefers plain boiled rice mixed with tuna and my husband has gone to buy him science plan today to try him on. His stools over the last 2 days have become runny and a jelly like substance in some of them. He also has traces of light red blood. He goes to the toilet out in our back yard about every hour. He is acting normal in every other way, pinching my slippers and running round chasing the kids etc, no lethargy signs and no vomiting and he is booked in for his first vaccination on Monday.
History
We bought him off a farm that was home to around 10 other dogs, he was kept with his sisters in another part of the farm but when we went to view him he was brought into the farmhouse kitchen with them and his owner said he was allowed in there on a night with his mother and father to play for an hour or so. He said all 3 pups had just been wormed so there may be some diarrhoea. Unfortunately I omitted to ask which brand of tablet had been used.
Do I need to be concerned and get him to vet now (saturday)?

Any vomiting... and you say loss of appetite... I don't know I had a puppy that started with the loose stool and blood in it and he ended up having parvo so I would suggest a vet visit asap

It sounds like he may be reacting to the change in his diet. Dogs don't do well when their diet is changed, they need to get use to new food slowly, mixing half and half and then less each day until the dog is solely on the new food.
Blood in the stool is never a good sign, but you said that there is no vomitting, no lethargy, and overall puppy is happy. If you are concerned call your vet, tell him/her what's going on to determine if your puppy needs to go in.
Good luck.

I agree that blood in their stools is never a good sign at all. If it were me, I would take him into the vet, as this could have several possibilities!
Something sounds very fishy to me, about the place where you got him. I'm thinking "puppymill." He could be a very unhealthy dog. If he was around that many dogs, and possibly more, and he hasn't gotten his first rounds of shots yet, he could have picked up all kinds of disease. I would get him to the vet right away.

I rang the vet and she said it sounded like a reaction to the worming tablet and to monitor him. He has been okay all night and his normal self. His stools have become harder and this morning he has had a pooh, no blood but it looks like a worm about 6 inches long, am just going to have a look at hookworms on site to see if that's what it was.

I'm concerned about the worm. It's a good thing that you have an appt. tomorrow. Do you know how to get in touch with the people you bought him from, so you can ask them what kind of pill they gave him? I would try and do this, as that would help your vet. Something doesn't sound right to me about this farm that you got him from. It just doesn't. I sure hope their other dogs have all of their shots. I would definitely explain to your vet where you got him, and the history you explained to us.
I sure hope he's okay!

Thank you all so much for your concern and its nice to know lots of people out there who can try to help, just an update, he has had no more blood or runny pooh since we put him on hills puppy science plan, expensive but worth every penny, he went to vet yday and got the all clear. She said the worm was roundworm and we have to worm him again this weekend. She took his temperature and said all looks fine. He is as naughty as ever and think I should re-name him scamp lol, thank you all for your kind concern, you are all wonderful people x
