I am looking for two things, one is the name of the song and the other is who sings the song. I know some of the words, and they are as follows. What is your name? On my mother's side my name is Jesus. On my father's side they call me Emmanuel. How old are you? On my mother's side I am 12 years old. And on my father's side I have always been.

I would like any help with this as I heard the song one time long ago. Thank You.

Maybe the title of the song you're looking for is : On my father's side

What's your name, young man?
On my mother's side: my name is jesus!
But on my father's side: I'm called "im-man-uel!"

Where're you from, young man?
On my mother's side: I'm from bethlehem.
But on my father's side: it's new je-ru-sa-lem!

What's your age, young man?
On my mother's side: I am twelve years.
But on my father's side: I have always been!

What're your plans, young man?
On my mother's side: I'll be cru-ci-fied!
But on my father's side: in three days I'll rise and sit at my father's side!

I think I can help you with this question. The song is 'On My Father's Side written by Felisah
Shifflet of Georgia and a group out of Tennessee have sung it for probably 10 years at every concert they do. They are wonderful and there have been others who have sung it but I always say no one can sing it like Gracie Wilson. There is a group called the village singers who say they made it popular but believe me it was out there along time before they ever heard it. They were at a bkuegrass festival and heard The Wilsons do that song and later went to there record table and bought the cd.
You can contact the wilsons at 176 thompson rd. shelbyville tn. 37160 or I also have their phone number. It is 985-351-1877
They are great people ! :)

I happened upon your question while looking for sheet music for the same song. The title is "On My Father's Side". I have heard it sung by Alan Camperson, who is the Music Pastor at Church of the Open Door in Westminster, MD. It is included on his CD titled "On The Winning Side". I have spoken with Alan, but he has no music. He did the song from memory, and his pianist, David Chamberlain made his own accompaniment as they practiced. The lyrics that follow are what he sings, but are slightly different from other listings I have seen. It does require a second person to ask the questions.

There was a young boy in the Temple one day.
He shared with the doctors, they were so amazed.
Never had they seen one so young speak so clear.
They asked him many questions, the conversation went like this:

Chorus:
Q: Son, what is your name?
A: On my mother's side my name is Jesus, but on my Father's they call me Emmanuel.
Q: How old are you?
A: On my mother's side I am twelve years, but on my Father's side I've just always been.
Q: Where are you from?
A: On my mother's side I'm from Bethlehem, but on my Father's side it's New Jerusalem.
Q: What are your plans?
A: On my mother's side I'll be crucified, but on my Father's side, in three days I will arise
And I'll sit on my Father's side.

He was the Son of God, yet the Son of Man
And I can't help but wonder how the teachers must have felt
As in the Holy Temple they heard the boy reply.
He said I am the King of Kings, that's on my Father's side.

Repeat Chorus
