View Full Version : A/C Loud Buzzing - Blower Motor won't turn on

My air handler is making a loud buzzing noise when it attempts to engage. The blower motor will not turn on, although the motor and attached "squirrel cage" appears to turn okay, so I'm guessing the bearings are okay.

Is this a capacitor problem, or am I likely to need a new compressor? The unit is about 7 years old.

Thanks,
Scott

The buzzing can be caused either by the relay (contactor) that operates the fan motor, or a defective starting capacitor.

The compressor is located outdoors and is not directly related to the indoor fan.

Thanks for the response. I had a repairman out and he indicated the bearing in the motor was shot. It's fixed now.
