Check manuals for diagrams. There might be manuals or wiring diagrams available on the DVD player manufacturer's web site or diagrams on the Direct TV web site.

It's hard to be very specific without knowing which outputs are available on your satellite receiver and which inputs are available on your TV. Earlier satellite receivers may be limited to composite or S-video outputs, while more recent models, especially ones with high definition capabilities, may also have component and/or HDMI ouputs. In addition to the availability of different input types, some TVs have multiple inputs of a particular type (composite, S-video, component or HDMI). The connections are usually labeled, but if the labels are merely molded into the plastic you might need a good viewing angle and good lighting to read them, potentially difficult with the back of the set near a wall or in an entertainment center. Sometimes a mirror and/or flashlight (look for one of those LED ones that straps to your head like a ball cap) is handy.

Generally, connect the outputs on the sources to the matching inputs on the TV. Ideally the TV will have multiple sets of inputs, allowing you to connect the satellite receiver to one set and the DVD player to the other set (don't forget the red and white stereo connections if you use composite or component). The composite and component connections are often color coded If the TV only has one set of inputs check you favorite video game and electronics retailers for switch/selector boxes.
