I'm asking this question on behalf of my daughter who lives in atlanta, ga. 2 months ago she moved from one apartment complex to another. Within a week the complex she moved from contacted her and said they did a walk through and she would get her full security. Two months have past and she's received nothing. I phoned the management company who initially stated that they weren't going to return the deposit because of damages. When I mentioned the law stating that they have 30 days to put it in writing or return the deposit, they then said they'd get a check out. My daughter picked up her deposit today and was told by the company that they kept $150. Because a second inspection was conducted and they found damages. This information was never sent to my daughter. How do we proceed?

File in Small Claims court. It's the only chance she has to see the money.
