I have an outdoor growing agave plant that was affected by the recent and unusually heavy snowfall in the Vancouver area: originally it was 1.3 m high and leaning slightly to one side, now due to the heavy snow it's flat on the ground and I am not sure if I should try and prop it up, cut it and hope for shoots come springtime or what else I could do to restore it to its original beauty

When did you get the plant? Most Agave's have a zoning for the hotter areas. There are a couple that are winter hearty. I assume that was your pick.
I would press the base of the plant down to make sure it's not being pulled out by the elements. If it feels secure in the earth, I would leave it alone and watch it in the spring. The sun and heat will revive it, think.

The plant is 6 years old , made it through each winter and grew nicely each summer... as to pressing the base I can try, but now that you suggest it, I think replanting would be the best bet. Only problem : it is big and really heavy
- 1.3 m high would make it 4 ' and 3.8 " and the weight is matching the height:)
In the mean time I propped it up , as soon as it gets warm enough I will attempt the digging part
