View Full Version : Paranoid about pregnancy

my question/concern.

my period is like clockwork. I'm always on time. Never missed a period intentionally with my birthcontrol. I always have the period. I take my because pill every single day at the same time. My boyfriend and I have been having unprotected sex for a couple of months now and we rarely practice withdrawing.. since I take my pill everyday. Haven't missed one. Always take it on time.. the chances of me becoming pregnant are 1 in 100 and that is weighing on the fact that I miss a pill or two. Which I have not. This isn't the problem either. I'm just giving some background information. I have been experiencing some bloating for the past couple weeks. It came on on the 21st of December and hasn't really let up. I have regular bowel movements so its not constipation or anything like that and I doubt its PMS because my birthcontrol gets rid of those symptoms and I never really had them to begin with except for the breast tenderness. Aside from tenderness and bloating for maybe a day that's about it for my PMS symptoms. My breast tenderness has come and gone for about a month now and the bloating has stuck around since December. I'm paranoid about pregnancy. I DO NOT want a child. Should I man up and take a pregnancy test? I haven't had any other tell tell pregnancy symptoms. Haven't been sick for days at a time. I don't really have food cravings. I'm not overly moody. I haven't missed my period ever.. everything is pretty normal for me except for the tenderness and bloating that just randomly came on and stuck around through my period and hasn't gone away.. its uncomfortable and looks really weird on my thin frame. I don't know what to do.. my birth control has progesterin in it and that's the hormone that's produced when a woman becomes pregnant... is this my bodies reaction? I've only been on the pill for three months. Isn't progesterin the hormone that a take home pregnancy test looks for to say yes or no? That's why I've been hesitant to take a test. I don't want it to come back positive when the case could be that I'm negative. SIGH

Another thing. To get rid of the bloating I've tried midol and naproxen to get the inflammation down and that didn't work.. I've been drinking a ton of water and peeing a lot to flush out maybe a virus or whatever it could be.. I also thought it could have been gas or water retention.. so I've been eating more fiber and drinking a ton of water and that hasn't really helped..

Guhh its bloating that even makes me look like I'm 5 months pregnant too... that's another reason why I'm paranoid... its just gross looking on my thin frame... I'm 6 feet tall and 138 lbs. I'm tiny. One pound on me looks like a million. Please help!

Rule out a possible pregnancy first... It may be from the pill... is it a progesterone only pill or a combination pill? Either way, some women will experience bloating. If it continues, you may want to ask your doctor about a different pill. Sometimes one will work better, having fewer side effects, than another for different women.
The pregnancy hormone you are thinking of is hcg (human chorionic gonadotropin). It is not in birth control pills so the pill won't effect the results of a pregnancy test.

That's what I thought it was.. that is was a side effect of my pill and that I should just wait it out and see if it goes away.. I've been experiencing paranoia from my pill too.. I was never this freaked out before I started taking it in October. So you think I should take a pregnancy test to ease my mind?

And then of course switch my pills... oh and yes my pill is a combo pill. Its Yaz. It has a low dose of progesterone and estrogen.. my doctor said it was a mini pill.

I am going to admit that I have not read the entirety of all the posts... too long and very hard to read.

I will say, though, that the pill is not 100% effective. I have 2 grown children conceived on the pill, one on the implants and the fourth after chemo (methotrexate) that should have rendered me sterile.

Finally got my tubes tied, but still aware of a slight possibility. Apparently I get pregnant when my hubby THINKS about sex. LOL

Please take a HPT using first morning urine. If that comes out negative, make an appointment with your doctor for a quantitave blood test.

Lol nice! Well that's pretty amazing you were so fertile even after chemo and all that jazz.. my doctor said I was safe to have unprotected sex because he and I both got tested blah blah blah and I've never missed my pill even by a minute. So... I don't know I'm just slightly confused because I'm not experiencing pregnancy symptoms aside from bloating (sign of implantation) and tenderness... and every period I've had while on the pill has been heavy the first two days and then it lightened up after that. Lasted the week it was supposed to and has always been completely normal so I don't think it was breakthrough bleeding or implantation bleeding. Ill feel silly if I take a test and its negative and I got myself all worked up and paranoid for nothing lol

There really is no need to feel silly... many, many women will wonder from time to time if what they are experiencing can be due to pregnancy. They will go back and forth with it in their minds, but it makes sense to test and put your mind at ease.
Most women will be fine having unprotected sex while on the pill as the pill usually offers a high level of protection itself. However, as J_9stated, no birth control will be 100% effective... even when used correctly.

Thanks for the answers! I think I will test... should I wait and see if the bloating goes away? Or until I have my period for this month? I mean it's a dead give away I am not pregnant if I have a period.

Actually my bloating went down today and I'm back to normal... lol I'm a little bit heavier than what I was but I think that's because of when it snowed a ton here all I did was eat..
