My son just replaced our electric heater. I just noticed that the hot water is coming from the cold water outlet on the water heater. Otherwise everything seems to be working... we get hot water out of our hot water faucets in our house. We have not used our shower yet but am assuming that it will work OK as well... what do you advise?
Thanks,
G

Your son reversed the hot and cold inlets? You have a large problem. The cold water side has a dip tube,(see image) that directs the cold water down to the bottom where the lower element heats it so mit can raise and the heat maintained by the upper element. Your son defeated all of this. Now the cold water inlets to the top and the hot water is drawn up through the dip tube from the bottom. Yes, you will have some hot water but your heater will not be working efficiently and operate the way it was designed.
My advice? Install the heater correctly. Good luck, Tom
