You will have to have a line voltage thermostat not a regular 24 volt thermostat that is used with standard furnaces and ac units.

I all ready have a line voltage thermostate and it turns on for a little and works fine but the termostate that is on the air conditoner unit messes it up before it gets to the right temp. so I want to bypass the one that is on the air cond. So it runs solely on the wall therm.

Does the A/C unit have a elecrronic control panel or does it just have a turn knob that sets the cooling level?

There should be two wires to the control just place the new thermostat wires in place of the knob control.
