View Full Version : Canon A40 viewfinder looks like a videocam

When I turn my Canon A40 on I get a black display with three white outlined boxes over the top of a sort of moving video cam looking display screen.

While I am sort of scanning after I take a photo the photo actually appears on the viewer screen if I put the camera in view mode but I have no idea what I'm photographing until I see the photo on the screen because the viewfinder is out of focus and moving.

I called the camera shop where I do business and for $150 he will clean the camera and "fix" the problem.

YIKES! The camera is probably 6 years old and I think I spent in the area of $450 at that time.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about (because I've confused myself!), what the problem might be and if it's worth "fixing."

Dumb answer but have you tried putting in a fresh battery?

Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids - if it works, please send your check, money order, or M&M's for $150 to me

Thanking you in advance...

Seriously, I hope that fixes your problem as there is nothing that can really be adjusted with that kind of camera to my knowledge.

Sonny piped up and said don't forget to clean the battery contacts with an eraser.

As embarrassing as this is - yes, the battery was this side of stone cold dead. I put my check in the mail to you so go stand out at the curb and wait for the mail to be delivered.

I think I have the right address - it's That Raccoon Lady, Somewhere in Ohio, right?
