I recently went to pick my brother up from work,the only car available was my sister in laws.she bought the car in t.j. under a salvage title they charged her a bunch of money for registration fees etc.well I was pulled over the officer told me that the car was previously registered in California and the previous owner was in an accident and didn't renew his tags for a year,now I'm stuck with this ticket I don't know have the money to register the car under my name neither does my brother or sister in law.they're trying to sell the car but my deadline is a couple of weeks away,is their a way out of this?

I'm not sure where t.j. is; did you mean that she bought the car in New Jersey? Did she get copies of the paperwork she signed when she bought the car? Did she sign the title and get a copy of it?
Obviously the car was in an accident; you stated that it had a salvage title. It doesn't matter if the previous owner chose not to renew his tags, that shouldn't stop you from registering the car in your state. Unless of course, the vehicle had a lien on it.
What exactly did you receive a citation for, operating a non-registered vehicle?

Yes, does not really matter about what or where car came from, you can't drive a car until it is registered and licensed. So basically you are guilty
