I'm new to this plumbing stuff, I'm a new home owner(finally). My question is simple I think. What do I do when my toilet is whistling? I do not have the regular toilet set up I have the Gerber pilot valve 99-646 and I have just had it with the noise. Thanks for hearing me out. Can someone help me please!!

When does it whistle. All the time, or just when you flush it. Is the whistle coming directly from the toilet, or is it coming from somewhere else in the house(water lines, vavles, water softener, ) Can you give a pic of the inside of the tank. Im not sure what your fill valve or assembly looks like. If you could post a pic I might be able to give some helpful advice.

Hi GietrichJohnson...
You have a gerber fill valve that will require you to purchase a SEAL CAP ASSEMBLY repair kit... Part #99-646SC.. see link below... may be able to find this at a PLUMBING SUPPLY HOUSE, but don't expect to find this at home depot or Lowe's.

Easier may be to replace with a fluidmaster 400(A) fill valve... see pictures below.
To replace this readily available fill valve (find at home depot or lowes) just need to shut the water supply to the toilet, drain tank of water (use sponge to remove all water from tank) and undo the toilet water supply tube and remove the fill valve (nut under tank).
Connect all as directed on package (do not overtighten nut! ), connect water supply (may want to purchase a (7/8") x (3/8") compression x 12" long Flexible toilet supply) and test/set height of fill valve so water level is about 1/2" to 1" below the OVERFLOW pipe (see picture).
Let us know what you think here... Glad to discuss in more detail if you need.
