I don't know if this is the proper place to post this and Im not sure if its been discussed but Ive noticed a whole lotta times where people are dissagreeing with other people on my and other peoples posts. If you dissagree with "Moe" about something then please don't post that on my post. "Put it on Moes" post. You are causing people to get low scores because you didn't agree with someone and I don't want people thinking I can't give good advice. Thank you.

Well, that is all in the scheme of things. People agree and disagree, that is life. But in the grand scheme of life we all learn and take something different from every answer.

I agree that it "stinks" that people disagree here, but we all learn something in the process.

I know I have.

I think she was saying, it's fine to disagree just make sure you are doing it on the right response or post. Maybe?

Yeah a little confusied as well, the wording really threw me off. I think you were right aqua, I believe she might have been saying just because you disagree with someone don't always lower their posts?? Make sure you lower the post you disagree with?? That was my interpretation anyway.

Perhaps it is possible for the head honchos ;) to make it so that someone who makes a comment can retract it. Since mistakes do happen from time to time, it would be nice that if I accidentally disagreed with the wrong post I could delete it and put it where it belongs.

Well, I personally feel it's an immature thing to do. As adults, I think we should learn to agree to peaceably disagree. The people who challenge us the most are the ones we stand to learn the most from. I feel, if you have nothing good to say to someone, just don't say it. Perhaps some people do it simply to be spiteful, but I think Abraham Lincoln said it best in the words, "I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends." No better way to invalidate a perceived adversary.
Just my thoughts on the matter. :)

I refer people to this thread:

https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/feedback/using-comments-feature-24951.html

Which discusses guidelines on how and when to use the Comments feature. That's what appears to be the focus of the OP.

People can disagree with matters of opinion. That's just part of life and free will. That is always going to go on whenever you have a discussion on opinion. However, if you disagree with a matter of opinion, just add a post to the thread offering your disagreement and an explanation.

In my opinion the Disagree choice in the Comments feature should be used ONLY when pointing out dangerous advice or correcting or factually incorrect answers.

One other point. The choices offered are I Approve and I Disapprove. These show up, however as I Agree and I Disagree. While these are similar they are not the same.

A disagreement that was meant for someone else was made on my post. Not the first time something like that has happened either. There is also problems with people agreeing on someone's post and putting that in the wrong place too. I know people make mistakes but its happening waaay too much.

Im sorry you guys I just don't know how to put it in the right words. I just assumed everyone would understand. Sorry

Well that is kind of a hard one. It looks to me like Marj Ann used the comment feature to answer instead of replying. So Susy was forced to use the same feature to correct it. Interesting discussion on idiomatic and cultural usage though.

It was like 110 today it really sucked because I hadn't been in my car in like two days and it was a heat box, so I left the back windows partially down so the next time it will be cool but I hope no one steals my cd's because they are all in there. Anyway, the heatwave is apparently striking everybody and I suggest we stay in indoors and use god's greatest gift to man. Air conditioning. Feel free to grab the ice cream of your choice. And watch outside as someone burns their hand on their car handle. Makes me giggle. Either way it's really really hot and I can't wait for a couple of days of under 100 weather.

Did you grill the chicken on the sidewalk?? That could be the reason for your tummy not feeling to good.

rudi_in
Jul 22, 2006, 12:34 AM
It is obvious that this thread has gone completely off track.

Let me add something, though, in regards to the irony that I find in this thread.

We started talking about how a "disagree" comment was put in the wrong place and how this could be a frustrating thing for someone who wishes to have a good reputation.

Over the course of this thread, however, we began to insult other people who have posted here, and go completely off topic by talking about fry cooks and the weather. We have also given "agree" comments to ask questions about frying chicken on a sidewalk. This would do the opposite of what nymphetamine was concerned about. It might make one believe that they could give good advice when really the post had nothing to do with the topic.

That having been said, I will pretend that I am two different people coming to this site and reading this thread.

Person 1 : I am the "nutcase" who made the post on the president thread. I come to this thread and read it. I see that others are openly making fun of me on the forums. I now have a couple options after being hurt.

A) I could begin causing problems for the site by posting improper things that smaller, innocent children could read. We don't want to portray that image.

B) I could leave and never return to this site again and spread some negative word-of-mouth advertising about AMHD while I am at it.

C) I could do both.

Person 2 : I am a new person and since the subject encourages me to read it, I do. I find that I get very little help from the thread because the problem is never addressed and I see that people here are blasting others.

I probably will have a bad taste in my mouth about this site and just go elsewhere.

I know I am playing a bit of devils advocate here but these are very real issues if we are to keep this service a professional one.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to point fingers or slam anyone here, I think it is cool that we can interact as friends here and joke about things like hot sauce and chicken but we need to perhaps take a moment to consider the consequences of our thoughts before we type. All the things we type are for the world to see. We have an effect on all who read our words and a quick look will show that a lot of people have viewed this thread.

I do not post as often as some of you but I do read a lot. This thread had an effect on me as well. I felt I had to say something.

Perhaps this thread could be deleted altogether and we can address the issue of misplaced disagreements in a new one.

?! NEWSFLASH!!

Look rudy, I don't know if you know this but what suject are you posting in right now... that's it come on... yeah the member discussions board.

If this thread wasn't in this particular subject then the topic of hotsauce and weather wouldn't come up. HOWEVER you are in the member discussions area, which are discussions, about anything, related to the members. I hate to sound harsh here but your killing the vibe man. Take a chill pill and calm out. Look all of us here mean no disrespect, you probably did have something important to say, but honestly all of us give all of our extra time and energy on the other subjects. I am confidant that we all give 100%. But this isn't one of those subjects, I like to think that we can have a place between us members that we can joke and horse around, because it isn't appropriate on other subjects, unless I missed the joke/horse around subject all together. But the last time I check it isn't there, and all I am saying is that we do keep it serious on the other threads in the OTHER subjects, but here in the Member Discussions are we like to keep it lose. Cabo SAN WHIZZ if you will. A little margaritas, senoritas, a real good time you know. Here maybe this will explain it:

Person 1: Sweet I just helped out some people on the other threads, they will really enjoy my feedback and my lending a hand to their inquiry's/problems. I know would like to spend sometime "off" time with my fellow companions on this site. Where would I go? Ahh the member discussion area! Sweet.

Person 2: Dude I totally just told this dude about how to totally find the right chicka for him, and I clearly sorted his life issues out buddddy. Maaan, where shall I go for some fun and excitement? I know CABO SAN WHIZZ. There's magaritas, senoritas, and tortillas. Time to cruise in on some grindage.

My entire point, here is if we can't spread our satirical wings and fly up in to the sky ever now and again, why did god give us them? It's good to just joke around, and matter of fact I really didn't appreciate you saying that we ruined this thread. It's just a thread, if you want to start a new one, there's a new subject button if you back out of the page you are already reading and then you just type from there. I warn you though, Cabo San WHIZZ likes to travel.

Hi, Rudi glad you brought that up. If I may clarify.

Person 1 : I am the "nutcase" who made the post on the president thread. I come to this thread and read it. I see that others are openly making fun of me on the forums. I now have a couple options after being hurt

He was the one insulting people and not discussing the issue so was reported as per the rules and was deleted. He then went back and posted another insult and they both are here for all to see. Yes he has options and what he chooses to do is up to him. And yes he is a nutcase, he proved it with his behavior.

Person 2 : I am a new person and since the subject encourages me to read it, I do. I find that I get very little help from the thread because the problem is never addressed and I see that people here are blasting others
As whizzkid points out this is the members discussion area and the problem was addressed and yeah we do let our hair down a bit from time to time and I think you would to as you get to know us better WE are not robots but people. A little humor is good I think. There, you have been officially invited to let your hair down with us.

I, for one, would like to aplogize for "hijacking" this thread. Yes it is in Member Discussions, but there really was a topic.

As far as agreeing or disagreeing, I only post my agree in the person's thread that I agree with. Rarely do I post a disagree. The only time I do that is when I can prove that the particular poster was incorrect, and I usually only do that in my medical boards where the info given could be dangerous to a reader.

Well, apologies aside. I have started The Lounge thread in Member Discussions so we can discuss there and give this thread back to the original topic.

I think people are still missing what the thread was about.

1. YES you can DISAGREE... no one is arguing that. Feel free, if you find something I say to be wrong (factually) please disagree and correct me.

2. Just do it on THE CORRECT post that you disagree with.

3. If you have a different opinion then that alone is not a reason to disagree. That is why you are allowed to post your own answer.

I hope you don't mind me summarizing for you Nymphetamine?
