Is it possible to open a new account in a different bank when my current one at my bank has been frozen? My previous landlord sued me and his lawyer sent the court appearance to my old address, which sounds very sneaky, unfortunately a judgement was granted and my account has been frozen. When this happens, how long before the bank releases the money? I plan to dispute this because I was not aware of a court date, what can I do. I also have direct deposit can they as well garnish my wages? Please advise... I am desperate I am a single mom and now have 0 in my account which was only to pay bills with. Thanks in advance.

I had a judgment on me because I closed an acct with an outstanding check. The banks all are hooked up together now so I was not able to open another acct anywhere for years. I even watched the guy at the bank read right on the screen about the other bank when I applied. So I don't think you will be able to open another acct anywhere with a freeze on one.

I had a similar problem. I got around it my opening a money market account that had a checking writing feature. If this won't work, you may have to go to a checking cashing place. I think Wal-Mart cashes paychecks now.
