I am new here and have searched and read many posts. Pretty impressive stuff! However, I could find the answer to my problem, so I must post!

Remodel of bath left the fairly new (1 yrs old) light fixture off center to the vanity. I have already tried moving the light as far as it will go by adjusting the screws holding the box and the screws holding the fixture to the box. Is there a simple way to get this light centered or do I need to move the box? If I have to move the box (metal attached to studs I believe) how do I do that? The fixture is not too heavy, it is oil rubbed bronze finishe with 2 separate lights with glass covers. The electrical part is pretty standard, one white, one black and a ground. Home is about 15 yrs old and the wall that this light is on is interior.

Before you get wrong advice, as one inch sounds like no problem, it may be best to see a photo of the fixture canopy that covers the box, so to see if the canopy can cover the outlet box adequately,

I will get that picture, but I do not think the it will cover it.

The diameter of the canopy is 5 1/2 inches roughly. If I have to disassemble the box and the wall to reassemble in the correct place, I will. I am just concerned that there will not be studs to mount the box back on, and I am hoping that there will enough play in the wires to move that far. In some other lights that we replaced (over sink light into a can light) there was not any play in the wires at all, so I had to add some in the attic and I really don't like to do that for fear of a fire, even though we did put the "code type box" on the area the wires were put together.

As long as the box containing the wires and splices are covered, if you can move the fixture the one inch without exposing these wires, then you should be fine.

If you need to move the box, you can use an old work box, they come in the 2x3 wall case, metal or plastic, or a 4" round plastic. These do not need a stud to attach to.
