My son has my maiden name. His biological father name is not on his birth certificate and he has never been part of my son's life pretty much he has been a ghost. I never lived with him and don't have an idea where to find him either. I just got married in March 2008 and would like to change his last name to my married name. What do I need to do?

Were you ever married to your sons father? I'm assuming not as you haven't ever lived with him. You shouldn't need his permission to change your sons name if you were never married.
You just need to get a deed poll
Go to UK Deed Poll Service - How to change your legal name by Deed Poll (http://www.deedpoll.org.uk/)

In the US, you may need to contact a family law attorney.
You SHOULD just be able to legally change the child's name, but in some cases you may need the biological father's permission.
If you are looking for your husband to ADOPT the child, that is a different story altogether.
