Hi I am about to have the flywheel taken off my Briggs rotary hoe as I couldn't get it off myself. I made a puller but it kept snapping the bolts. Unfortunately trying to get Hi tensile bolts at the moment is hard as everything is shut. So I think I will get the mech on Monday
However after he has got it off I need to replace the ignition I have one exactly the same that will fit off an old briggs mower. However when I replace it I believe that this will alter the timing as I will be also replacing the capacitor. How do I go about re setting the timing. I don't think I can use a dial gauge as I can't get access to the pistion through the spark plug hole. Is there an easy way or can only a mech do it.

Also if he uses an oxy as a little extra persuasion for the fly wheel will that seal need replacing or should I do it anyway.

Kind regards Anthony

Hi,
No, you can do it! The condenser is half of the points. Just turn clockwise until they close and then open fully. Then set to 0.020". If you suspect any coil issues, replace with a Magnetron armature and eliminate the points; all you do is chop the wires off.
Peace,
Clarke
