Hi -
I had some issues with the title of the property (condo) when I was in a relationship with my ex. I was not married at the time, but since the plans were to get married, I added her to the title (she was not helping me with any kind of monetary help towards the property). Anyhow, things did not work out and she would not "quit claim" the property and wanted to extort money for her "quit claim".
I went after her using legal procedure through lawyers and she finally just sent in the Quit Claim and this deed has also been recorded in the County's Clerk office (after which they sent me the original Quit Claim doc). My question is, is there anything I need to do beyond this i.e. once Quit Claim is recorded, does the recorders' office make updates to the title of the property showing only my name, if so, how long does it take for them to complete it and will they mail a copy or just recording Quit Claim deed completes all the paper work needed?
I am little confused since I want to make sure and can terminate the lawyer's services or if I have to wait to confirm the title is updated and only then I should terminate the lawyer's services? Any info on this matter will be appreciated since this took close to a year to finally reach this point of course which also cost me quite a bit.
Thanks,
Sujit
Note: My property is located in Southern California (Orange County to be precise).
