Furnace runs when I turn swiitch on or turn thermostat down then up. Once it gets to temp required, it does not kick back on, unless I do the aformentioned turning it off and on again. For two nights it worked for five or six hours-then during the day its not kicking on again when it gets cooler, until I kick it on and off again. Propane gas. Help (mercury type thermostat) Help!

Thermostat is a Cam Stat TM17H-180
Furnace is a Coleman Evcon BGU12520A

Try cleaning the flame sensor rod. It will look something like this.

That is different than the Hot Surface Ignitor (that looks like a tunning fork) I'll look for that. Thanks

You have one on your unit . I looked it up in the parts manual.

Found it - used steel wool - didn't feel like it needed it - but it kicked on by itself today when the temps went down. From a guy who is not handy at anything- I thank whoever answered this. I brushed off the thermostat, vacumed the area as was suggested - and got advise from you - and I think I'm good! Thank you-thank you!
