Can Social Security benefits received in Ohio and/or Florida be garnished?

Social security benefits are exempt from garnishment, but it will be up to you to prove the funds in your bank account are from social security{ if you have direct deposit } and if the creditor has a judgement allowing them the right to freeze your account.

They are exempt from garnishment for unsecured debt. But government debt can attach them.

As noted, if the funds are deposited in a bank account, you h ave to make sure the bank is aware that the source of the funds is exempt income.

It depends on who's doing the garnishing.

If you owe the government, then they can do what ever they want.

My dad is having his SS benifets garnished because he worked to many hours a few years back, and now he is having to pay it back.
