I've just gotten a new Carrier 2 1/2 ton heat pump 15 seer.
It has an edge programmable thermostat. If I have the thermostat set to 66 degrees and
up it to 67 the heat comes on and the blower starts. Almost immediately the thermostat
shows 67 degrees and the blower will continue to run for over an hour. I finally have to
set the terperature back down to 66 to get the blower to stop and the heat to cut off. Also
the aux heat pops in an out at random.

Set the thermostat system selector to the emergency mode and raise the setpoint a few degrees. Does warm air start blowing after a few minutes? Brand new usually comes with a warranty... have you spoken with the installer? I got to run to work... post the results of this check so someone else can pick up from here. Good luck!

He unit works fine on emergency heat... it just blows cold air on regular heat and the blower runs for hours before it even gets up one degree. The outside temperature fluctuates as many as 4 degrees in less than a min.

Have you considered contacting the company that installed your unit. You paid them good money for a professional job and since it is new it is under warranty. Your problem might not be in the thermostat and actually with the new unit outside since it is taking so long to heat.

The installer has been here five times... finally today they came and said the outside unit pressures were too high and that the outside unit had probably stopped and that was why the blower inside kept blowing cold air. He dropped the pressure and I was able to finally
Feel a bit of warm air. I am going to monitor both inside and outside for the next couple of days.

Sounds like the installer does not know what they are doing. Usually under these circumstances it is best to leave it alone so the installer cannot claim that you tampered with it and voided the warranty. You sound like a smart person and you are keeping a log of every visit and what was said by them. Actually it is always best to have them write down exactly what they do on every trip to your home on there service invoices since this can become extremely valuable information if this situation ends up in a court of law. This does happen from time to time and written communication from the company that did the work is always the best way to prove your point.

1/19/09 installer replaced the thermostat.
1/20/09 thermostat is set at 70.. all rooms in the house range between 64 -66 degrees. I am
Working with the owner of the company that installed the unit. The only time I get warm air flow is when the aux heat is running. He checked the air coming out of the floor vents and it was 68 at times and 80+ at others. I though the heat coming out of the vents should be above 90. He also measured the walls chairs, etc. they were all at around 66-68 degrees and the thermostat said it was 70.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At this point I have nothing to add since it is now in the hands of the contractor and there next moves will determine what you will need to do. If they fix it OK and if not then post back. NOTE: keep all records of there trips what was said and get all there trips in writing for the record.

March 3,2009 still having problems with heat pump. Carrier rep is supposed to come today.
They increased the size of the return air grill with some improvement. Aux heat seems to come and go when it wants to. New thermostat.

Since the system is new it should be under warranty by the company that did the install.
