While I was plowing my driveway,I hate snow, my old Murray died. When I tried to start it again, it was dead, I cleaned the terminals on the battery and connections to the solenoid and then jumped the battery with a battery charger. The solenoid didn't click it clunked when I turned the key. I put a screwer drive across the terminals on the solenoid, got a good spark but starter didn't turn. I also noticed a slight whine noise, not sue where it came from. The solenoid isn't to old but would it be worth it to install a new one and see what happens?
Thanks for any help

I would try another solenoid. Did this do this before and shut off and the other solenoid fixed it? The whrr might have been the starter wheel just spinning. Can you by pass the solenoid and battery cable to check the starter and see if it works. The starter wouldn't shut the motor down (just checking the whrr) Stick with solenoid replacement and go from there.

Thanks 21boat. I will try a new solenoid and go from there.
