Hi, My washing machine kept leaving our clothes really wet. We'd keep putting it on spin cycle, but it wouldn't work. I thought maybe there was a clog in the drain or a bad impeller in the water pump. All those checked out. I put it back together and rigged the door so I could watch it spin. It drains just fine, but when the spin cycle engages, it barely moves, then slowly gets going but never gets going very fast at all. Is there some kind of clutch that may be going bad in there?

If it is the old style check the drive belt. They do wear out.

Unfortunately it'd direct drive. There are no belts to check. Initially I thought it might be slippage also. Do you know if this is a sign of a bad motor? The clutch/transmission looked fine when I checked it. I noticed I can spin the agitator to make it go faster, or I can hold it and stop it completely.

Its internal in the transmission then. I was hoping it was a belt drive for you so it would be a cheap fix. When you hold it does the motor stop or keep going. If it stops the motor then the motor could be tired but if the motor keeps going it is the trans.

Ahhh. Bummer. The motor stays on just fine. It's as if the motor is spinning freely and I can hold the washer from spinning. Any idea on the cost to replace a washer transmission? Thank you for the quick replies!

No idea on price. Check the warranty on the transmission.
