Hi

I recently had a root canal after a new filling and temp filling failed. They told me it would be uncomfortable for a couple of days but when I bite down on anything it is very sore. It also feels like there is still a cavity because it is sensitive to cold.

I went back the next day because it was very sharp and cutting at my tongue. It was filed down very close to my gum in order to "smooth" it out. She said it wasn't infected so I asked her why it hurt/throbbed/pain up side of face towards my ear? She said it could possibly be that I need another root canal in the tooth behind it. The dentist that performed the root canal said the surrounding teeth looked fine... I went to an associate today for the follow up and she told me something different. They also told me absolutely no chewing on it. And to get a permanent filling asap... then a crown.

Is the ache that I am experiencing normal. The root canal was only done yesterday. Top back molar. Said the four nerves were langled and it was a more difficult procedure than the "normal" root canal.

Thanks

Cold sensitivity means that it is another tooth.. after a root canal the nerve is DEAD! Its normal for it to hurt for a bit under pressure... take some advil and get the other tooth checked out

Well today is day 3 since the root canal and it really hurts. I try not to put any pressure on it while eating but every now and again I mistakenly bite on it... and wow... I see stars! Its sorer now than it was before I had the root canal and much more painful than it was just yesterday. The entire side of my face hurts also, right up to my ear and my cheek seems slightly swollen. I've been taking advil but it only helps temporarily.

I called the endodontist office early this morning and then again this afternoon and have yet to hear back from her. I'm wondering if I may possibly have an infection. Is it possible for an infection to set in. If the nerve is dead than why is it so painful to put pressure on the tooth and why the constant throbbing?

Thanks.
