I am in the process of remodeling my bathroom. I have a question regarding the tub spigot. How do I remove it? I have read that it turns off and some even have a set screw. Now here is my problem... first, there is no set screw. Second, I cannot seem to turn the spigot off. It is the kind that has a knob on top that when pulled up, directs the water to the showerhead. Any ideas on how to remove it? Thank-you for your time and consideration.

There are basically two kinds of tub spouts with diverters... the threaded kind and the slip on kind (see pictures below). The slip on type spout is missing the diverter in this picture but presents the idea for you to see it.

For the slip on kind you would find a small slot on the underside of the spout. To remove a slip on spout loosen the Allen Head Set Screw pull and twist the old one off and replace it with a new one. Use a little silicone GREASE to lubricate the new Oring just prior to installation so the new Oring doesn't bind and break.

For the threaded kind you would need to unscrew the spout counterclockwise and remove the spout. Prior to installation use some Teflon tape or some pipe dope on the threads of the pipe just before screwing new spout on, good luck.
