Hi, I'm putting in W/D hookups upstairs.

Few questions:

1. With 3 inch drain pipe, when I tee it how small can the vent pipe diameter be? Want it to be smaller.

2. Water drain will t in the wall (vent up, drain down), should I have the drain connect to existing drainage system in 1st floor ceiling, or can I just send the vertical drain pipe all the way down to basement ceiling and tap there? It would be easier to take to basement (space, angles).

3. I'm looking at a possible distance of 6 feet from p-trap to vent, the vent have to go up right where the drain line switches to vertical right? Could I do a small down pipe woth vent up and then have it go howrizontal then down again to make a little extra horizontal distance?

Hello lib.
1. you can run an 1 1/2'' vent for you washer drain.
2. yes you can run the drain down to the basement and tie in at that point.
3. yes you can offset the drain on a horizontal run as long as you give it 1/4" per foot slope, but the drain must be a minimum 2" diameter drainline. Good luck on your project.-----zeke----

I have the down drain 4 1/2' from the p trap. The question is can the vent pipe go up a few feet, then take a 90 degree away from washer then a 90 back up? This will allow me to get the drain vent into the wall where it won't be visible. Thanks a lot.
