Our toilet doesn't flush all the way leaving toilet paper in the bowl after flushes, and the flapper doesn't fit properly so that we usually have to lift the lid and push it down ourselves (we've tried various sizes with no luck). So I'm thinking we need to replace the toilet. Would you agree?

Next question... If I have to replace the toilet, the rough-in is 11.5. Also there is NO room between the wall and the tank. So do I get a 10" rough-in toilet, a 12" rough-in toilet, or is there another option?

Hey there RF:

Has the toilet ever flushed properly? If so, may be cheaper and easier to just replace all the guts to the toilet with a FLUIDMASTER COMPLETE REPAIR KIT (see picture below). Instructions are in the box and we are always here to back you up if you decide to do this yourself.

If never flushed well then according to your measure of 11.5" from finished wall to the CENTER of the toilet flange you want to purchase a 12" rough-in toilet. This should be a nice tight fit and should work perfectly as most 12" rough-ins have as much as 1.5" off the finish wall to the back of the toilet tank... so stick with the 12" rough-in toilet and you should have a nice looking toilet install.
