I'm worried about my furnace it's as old as the house I bought recently( built in 1973)
It's a gas burning furnace and it's blowing air that;s too hot. It has warped a hard plastic register already and the smell keeps getting worse. I have someone coming to look at it Tuesday but have 2 small children and am worried it might hurt them
The best way to describe the smell is... if something plastic falls on an element in a dishwasher and starts to melt... can't see anything wrong inside the furnace and not sure what to look for as I'm not a handy man :(
Any ideas??
Please help

My advice is to run the furnace as little as possible until the repair person gets there. You might also check to make sure the air filter is not plugged up since that can cause some of the problem.

Burning odor and excessive supply air temp? Sounds like a failing/struggling blower motor. As hvac1000 recommends, minimize usage until service person arrives.
