View Full Version : Switch numbers between two existing cell phones.

I currently have two cellphone contracts that are both in my name. (from Canada) I got my first one with rogers... about 1.5 years later my mom wanted to get a cell phone, I let her take over that phone and contract and got a new contract with telus mobility for myself. Well the contract with rogers is up and I have reached a point in my life where a blackberry could be useful. I don't want to outright buy one on my telus contract so I was wondering if I could switch the numbers between the two carriers and give my mom the remainder of the time lasting on the telus contract while I renew with rogers and get a deal on a blackberry.

Now I know you can take numbers from cancelled phone contracts and move them over to another contract with a different company... my brother did this... Just wasn't sure if you are able to swap numbers between two active contracts from two different companies. If I can't than I want to save myself the trouble of going into the cell store.

Thanks

I used to work for Sprint PCS in activations, in Orlando Florida. I can tell you physically, you can make the switch between the phones. You might have to let one (your Mom's) go silent for a day, but it can be done. On the other hand, Telus might balk at the idea, citing contract issues. (Activating a brand new phone with a new number is easy, but with a currently active phone transfer, maybe not.) So I'd call Telus up and ask. That will save you a whole lot of heartache.
Let us know how it goes.
