While I do wish I could just say no, the issue is, how old, and will they give you a waiver. Also consider looking at other states ( move)

While it is frowned on, there are exceptions made at times, there were recently two State Highway Patrol people in TN with felony records that got in because of a family member help them.

So call the recruitment line for the department, be blunt about your past and they will tell you yes or no for sure. NY state department is one of the higher paying, at one time I know they paid better than the Federal Prison officers, so officers from the Federal system were trying to get on there. So it may be hard, If you look for states where Correctoinal officers make about 24,000 a year and few want the job you may have a better chance.

I say no - NY is tough. If you are convicted of a felony when you're already a Corrections Officer you are dismissed from your employment. Felons cannot carry firearms and NYS corrections officers (for the most part) carry firearms.
