HI,
We are having trouble with our old trane furnace. It has worked fine up until last year when it got really cold and a kind of drainage pipe froze but it was easily fixed. This year poses a different problem. Our blower(fan)is sueaking really bad.So bad in fact that we were afraid to leave it on so we turned it off.I believe that the fan is hardley moving. It is making the same noise that a fan that is getting stuck or needs a shot of oil makes.a loud squeaking screeching noise!
One of the family got own on the floor and cleaned out a bunch of yuck but it didn't seem to help.
It is a Trane super efficiency gas furnace XL 90.
If a nice person out there knows how we can go about fixing it I would be very grateful!
The blower (fan) is on the lower part of the fernace and looks somewhat large. But we are unable to see the actuall fan part.I hope someone can help us!
God Bless

You can try to remove and lubricate the motor BUT most of the motors now days do not have oil holes. Turn off power remove screws and wiring(make sure you mark and identify each wire as to where it came from so you can put it back when done.) and the entire blower assembly will come out. Then you will have to disassemble the pieces (blower wheel, cage extension etc). Easy does it there can be very sharp edges on the item you are working on.

Clean it all up lube the motor if possible (replace if necessary) and reassemble then reinstall as reverse of removal. If you get a new motor get a new capacitor for the new motor and replace the capacitor. Never get a new motor without a new capacitor.

Good luck with your project and post back with the results.

Thank you so much!
We ended up calling a repair service but I didn't really get to see all he did.He checked a bunch of stuff and then had us turn the furnace on and of course it made a huge racket! We turned it off without hesitation and he took the blower out.He then unscrewed all the wirering and stuff just like you said to do and took out the old motor and brought back a new motor.
He said the old motor was preatty much burned out and that some insulation had fallen in front of it blocking the blower.I think that may have caused it to do what it did.I hope this never happens again but if it does I am now glad to think Its possible for me to do it without having to pay a repaire service. And thanks for mentioning about the capacitor I didn't know that!Thank you so much and God Bless!
