'03' Landcruiser 79 series turbo diesel that developed a ticking noise around 90 thousand clicks when under load, for instance the start of each gear initially now is always there.
Have adjusted valve clearance's so has toyota, made very little difference and came back a day later.
So then I had the injector's cleaned and that minimized the noise and once again came back a couple a days later.
Toyota reackons it's normal for that model but that's bull.
Sounds like n old V8 with bad lifters, Any idea's mate:confused:

Try full-synthetic diesel engine oil (e.g. Mobil 1), of the viscosity recommended for your Landcruiser.

A friend of mine bought a 1995 F-150 pickup truck from the dealer about 5 years ago. At first, the dealer didn't want to sell it to him because of a persistent tick in the engine. Their mechanics couldn't get rid of it, so they were going to junk the truck. He said he'd buy it as is. Several months ago, I worked on the truck for him and, when I changed the oil to full-synthetic 5W-30, the tick immediately went away. He was so used to the tick that he still can't believe it's gone. Give it a try.

We have a ton of those problems here, mate. But it's on the gas 4.7, not diesel. It's the exhaust leaking at the manifold to cylinder head.
New manifolds and gaskets fix this issue. Might help you out.
